A New Color (2019)

A New Color is a durational performance piece for choir. The piece consists of nine individually set and simultaneously performed melodies, which overtime meld and transform into an improvised soundscape accompanied by a reading of Mary Oliver's "The Sun."

The piece was composed through several workshops with elementary school students in the Hamptons (Long Island, NY) area. As part of their participation in the Guild Hall of East Hampton’s exhibition, ugo rondinone: sunny days, students reflected on their relationship to the sun; recounting memories, recalling various colors in the sky, and transferring their experiences into sound improvisations. The improvisations were then pieced together to form the nine set melodies within A New Color.

Premiered at Guild Hall of East Hampton's 2019 Summer Gala in celebration of the exhibit, ugo rondinone: sunny days.
